Definitions

Ethnicity Definitions for ethnicity are according to Statistical Netherlands (SN)  
Native:   A person born in the Netherlands of whom both persons are also born in the Netherlands.  
First generation immigrant /   foreign born:   A person born outside the Netherlands of whom at least one parent is also born outside Netherlands.  
Second generation immigrant:      A person born in the Netherlands of whom at least one parent is born outside the Netherlands.  


Risk groups

   

Risk groups definitions are according to the definitions in the NTR.

An ‘immigrant’ is defined as a person with a legal residence status (other than a tourist or asylum seeker) as described in the Dutch policy regarding the screening of immigrants and is living in the Netherlands for less than two and a half year when diagnosed with TB.

An ‘Asylum seeker’ is defined as a person with a legal residence status (or in the process of getting a legal status) described in the Dutch policy regarding the screening of asylum seekers and is living in the Netherlands for less than two and a half years when diagnosed with TB.

An ‘Illegal’ is defined as a person without a legal residence status independent of the duration in the Netherlands when diagnosed with TB.

A ‘Homeless’ is defined as a person without a permanent residence who frequently sleeps on the street or in temporary homeless residences.

A ‘Drug abuser’ is defined as a person who regularly uses or used hard drugs leading to social derailment.

An ‘Alcohol abuser’ is defined as a person who drinks alcohol excessively leading to social derailment.

A ‘prisoner diagnosed by screening’ is defined as person who is diagnosed with TB through screening for TB in a prison.

A ‘professional contact (of a risk group)’ is defined as a person with an increased risk of exposure through contact with still unidentified TB patients.

A ‘Traveler (in endemic countries)‘ is defined as a person who travelled for more than 3 months in the past 2 years in countries with an estimated TB prevalence of > 100/100,000 population.

A ‘TB contact’ is defined as a person who is documented by a MSH as a contact of an infectious TB patient (e.g. person has been part of contact investigation).

A ‘previous TB patient’ is defined as a person who has received TB treatment in the past during a minimum period of one month.


 

Resistance

   
Mono drug resistance Resistance to one antibiotic.

 
Poly drug resistance A combination of resistance to antibiotics, except a combination of Isoniazid and Rifampicine.

 
Multi drug resistance A combined resistance to at least Isoniazid and Rifampicine.  


Diagnostic delay

   
Patient delay The time period between the onset of cough and the first contact with health care services for this complaint.

 
Doctor delay The time period between the first contact with health care services and the date of TB diagnosis.

 
Diagnostic delay The sum of the patient- and doctor delay.  

Regions – Region is based on the zip code of the patient at the time of diagnosis.
North Provinces Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe.
East provinces Overijssel and Gelderland
