Risk groups definitions are according to the definitions in the NTR. An ‘Asylum seeker’ is defined as a person with a legal residence status (or in the process of getting a legal status) described in the Dutch policy regarding the screening of asylum seekers and is living in the Netherlands for less than two and a half years when diagnosed with TB. An ‘Illegal’ is defined as a person without a legal residence status independent of the duration in the Netherlands when diagnosed with TB. A ‘Homeless’ is defined as a person without a permanent residence who frequently sleeps on the street or in temporary homeless residences. A ‘Drug abuser’ is defined as a person who regularly uses or used hard drugs leading to social derailment. An ‘Alcohol abuser’ is defined as a person who drinks alcohol excessively leading to social derailment. A ‘prisoner diagnosed by screening’ is defined as person who is diagnosed with TB through screening for TB in a prison. A ‘professional contact (of a risk group)’ is defined as a person with an increased risk of exposure through contact with still unidentified TB patients. A ‘Traveler (in endemic countries)‘ is defined as a person who travelled for more than 3 months in the past 2 years in countries with an estimated TB prevalence of > 100/100,000 population. A ‘TB contact’ is defined as a person who is documented by a MSH as a contact of an infectious TB patient (e.g. person has been part of contact investigation). A ‘previous TB patient’ is defined as a person who has received TB treatment in the past during a minimum period of one month.
